CHATHAM HOUSE EVENT, A SUSTAINABLE FOOD FUTURE: PRODUCTION, SUPPLY AND CONSUMPTION

Montpellier Panel members Gordon Conway and Joachim von Braun will be among speakers at the Chatham House event A Sustainable Food Future: Production, Supply and Consumption7 Dec 2015 – 09:30 to 8 Dec 2015 – 13:30

Following the United Nations Summit to adopt the post-2015 development agenda in September 2015, the implications of the agreed goals on the global food system need to be addressed.

A key feature of the Sustainable Development Goals is the recognition of interdependencies across the food system between production and consumption, resource use, international policies, support for smallholder farmers, agricultural value chains and health. Changes in food production and consumption, vulnerabilities and inefficiencies in food systems and the implications of these for policy and business, as well as the climate impact of the sector and the connection between food and resource use must therefore be confronted.

This conference will bring together policy-makers, businesses and NGOs to critically consider strategies to tackle the challenges presented by the Sustainable Development Goals and to develop a more robust food system while exploring opportunities for investment, reducing environmental impact and improving health.
