About the Global Donor Platform

The Global Donor Platform for Rural Development is a network of 34 bilateral and multilateral donors, international financing institutions, intergovernmental organisations and development agencies.

The Platform Annual General Assembly, under the overall AGA theme “Food, Farmers and Markets”, was held on 30-31 January 2013 in The Hague and hosted by The Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The AGA was an opportunity for members to meet, exchange experience and plan and agree on their joint initiatives for the forthcoming year. This year’s AGA focused on Food, Farmers and Markets and provided a forum for Platform members to discuss and plan ahead to address critical questions around food security, smallholder farmers, market access and the role of the private sector and international community. Drawing participants from among Platform member organizations, partners, academia and the private sector, delegates gathered to review challenges and opportunities, strategies and new developments. Specific working groups addressed challenges to finance for smallholder farmers, enhancing nutritional content of food, climate-smart agriculture and commodity markets and trade.
